"Perfect times"; waiting for "perfect times" was the driving theme in his life.
He was a muscular man. For over 40 years he has been a body builder. He was a hard working, retired factory worker. For forty years he labored in the factory, looking forward to the "perfect times" of retirement. Now, he has been retired for over one year.
Looking back over his career and retirement, he became angry.
"I was waiting for the perfect time. It never came."
He was looking forward to "perfect times" with his wife and children. He was looking forward to "perfect times" regarding his health and physical activities. He was looking forward to "perfect times" in his pursuit of his hobbies, sports, and having fun.
Even before his retirement there were trying times. He worked too much. He was too angry and sometimes controlling. His wife had chronic health issues. His children struggled with life. He couldn't play and have fun. This burly, strong man's retirement had turned into a never ending marathon of care giving.
He cared for his wife. However, gradually, he turned into an angry, bitter, disgruntled man. He became completely absorbed in his anger. He could not get beyond his disappointments There was always a reason why he couldn't do something to make himself happy.
I could empathize with him. There were times in my life that I too had failed to act and enjoy life, because the "perfect time" had eluded me. I was aware that my anxiety, fear, self-doubt and anger sometimes had prevented me from blossoming in my life, because the "perfect time" hadn't arrived.
One day he came in with a different attitude. He had done three or four things for himself. I wondered what happened.
He said, "I was waiting for the perfect time. It never came. I took it." I still didn't understand. None of his circumstances had changed in his life.
He went on to say that he took the opportunity to make the current time in his life the "perfect time".
I got it. He stopped waiting and being passive. He chose to actively do what he wanted to do and turned his time into the "perfect time".
Are you waiting for the "perfect time" in your life to do something or make a change? Trust yourself and have courage. Make this time the "perfect time" for you.
